Saturday, 31 January 2009. UBD’s first ‘GenerationNext’ Annual Dinner 2008 was held at Manggis Mall Ballroom. This year (stands for last year, 2008) annual dinner was organized completely different from UBD’s traditional Annual Dinner for years. This time, the Annual Dinner was given a theme. The theme was ‘Blue & Purple’. The annual dinner 2008 had become one of the arenas for UBD staff to show up their talents (or organization teamwork) to the whole UBD.
That night, the function was started by a simple speech by Acting Vice Chancellor. After the speech, there was an appreciation to former UBD Officers and staff that were transferred and retired. The former UBD Vice Chancellor was one of them. The meal was then served and while having a nice food, it was the time that all are waiting for; the UBD Staff stage performances.
Akademi Pengajian Brunei (APB) lecturers, officers and staff had started the stage performance by singing a Bruneian traditional song entitled ‘Cabuk-cabuk Bertali Rambai’. A full red Chinese dressed group called The IM Red Lions from the Institute of Medicine following the stage performance. They started dancing from main entrance of the ballroom headed by a dragon to the stage where they perform a dance called ‘The Fan Dance’.
The third stage performance was a sing-a-song entitled ‘Seiring Dan Sejalan’ by Student Affair Section (HEP). This was followed by an unplugged performance by Dr. Mukul Saxena of FASS with a Bollywood’s famous song titled ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. His performance was enlightened by FASS’s officers and friends staged in front of the audience with unplanned dance. The audiences were also entertained by jokes by Dr. Mukul Saxena.
A mini stage theatre/drama and dance was next. The 'Alai Bubu Moden' was to be given as a title of the drama / dance performed by the Memory Estete. The performance was derived from Bruneian traditional ghost dance but this had been mixed by modern ideas. The synopsis of the drama was that the group needed a song for the bubu to dance. The stage performance was then followed by GenerationNext Librarians that performed a singing called ‘What You’ve Been Looking For’. After the singing, the audiences were then entertained by watching a mini movie titled “Change” by FBEPS.
Before the stage performances continued, the attendees were assessed and given a prize for male and female best dressed.
The stage performances became warm when SHBIE Youngsters performed on stage by singing and dance of famous song called ‘I Will Survive’. The stage was almost burning when ETC Glamour performed on stage by twisting and singing a well known Malay 60s twist song called ‘Ai Ai Twist’.
The hot stage had a break by displaying lucky draw numbers on screen. There were more than 80 prizes to be won.
The tenth performer was Pg sallehudin from Library by singing solo followed by an energetic solo sing performance by Alwis of ICTC. The stage was then ended by a powerful dance medley by Fantastic 12 of FOS entitled ‘Musical Wonders’.
That was the first time ever that UBD officers and staff to perform on stage on UBD Annual Dinner and yet, that was definitely entertaining. Hope to see all to perform 2009’s UND Annual Dinner.
